Refugee Child Inclusion Program (Mbarara)

Reaching Refugee Children in Mbarara City:
Oyesigye Special Child Foundation continues to advance its mission of serving vulnerable children through inclusive and community-centered approaches. In line with this commitment, the Foundation has launched a new outreach initiative targeting refugee children in Mbarara City and its surrounding areas.

This marks an important first step toward extending our services to children who come from nearby refugee settlements—children whose life circumstances often place them among the most underserved.

Beginning with Understanding:
At this stage, the Foundation is undertaking a baseline survey to better understand the realities faced by these children and their families. The exercise is focused on:

– Identifying where the children are located within and around Mbarara City
– Understanding their daily living conditions and experiences
– Mapping existing support systems and gaps in care
– Building relationships with families and community structures

This process is essential to ensure that future interventions are relevant, responsive, and grounded in the real needs of the children.

Our MoU with Mbarara City 2022, is anchored in our program commitment under the “Leave No Child Behind” framework, as agreed in our partnership engagements. It reflects a deliberate effort to reach children who are often excluded due to disability or any other special need (including displacement and limited access to structured support systems)

We recognize that refugee children face multiple layers of vulnerability. Our approach, therefore, begins with listening, learning, and engaging—before rolling out tailored services that respond effectively to their context.

Building for Impact.
By laying this foundation, Oyesigye Special Child Foundation is positioning itself to design a program that is:
– Evidence-based and informed by real data
– Inclusive and accessible to children in diverse circumstances
– Community-driven, with active involvement of caregivers
– Scalable through partnerships and collaborative support

A Call for Partnership:
As we move through this foundational phase, we welcome collaboration with partners who share our vision of equity and inclusion. Support in areas such as research, outreach, capacity building, and program development will be critical in shaping a meaningful and sustainable response.
